上面这一段话中有两个词组值得提一下：

scare the hell out of somebody：吓shi人了

ask someone on a date (=ask someone out）：约某人出去

女主莎莉坚信男女可以只是朋友而没有性爱，但在一个聚会上，男女主发现自己已被对方所吸引。为了保持两人纯洁的友谊，他们决定分别为对方介绍对象，于是都推荐了自己最好的朋友，玛丽和杰斯。上面这段话发生在莎莉和玛丽之间。

spot有条释义是“位置，地点”，还记得《生活大爆炸》中Sheldon的专属spot吗？

The expression "those three little words" refers to the phrase "I love you." Since "I love you" is considered such a strong and powerful thing to say, we often use the phrase "those three little words" to refer to the phrase in conversation. Usually, this is used when at least one person in a couple hasn"t said it to the other, but it can also be used for the first time one partner says "I love you" to the other. (Source)

大家常看美剧会发现，外国人只有在关系到了一定的地步才会跟对方说“I love you.”，因为这三个字在他们看来是“such a strong and powerful thing to say”，所以他们不会轻易开口说，日常对话中可使用“Those Three Little Words”来指代“I love you.”。

For the love-struck couple, it was a moment to cherish when they said those three little wordsto each other for the first time.

对于热恋中的人们来说，双方第一次说“我爱你”这三个字的时候是一个值得珍惜的时刻。

They fell for each otherinstantly.

他俩一见钟情。

“fall for something”意思却大相径庭： (informal) to be tricked into believing something that is not true（信以为真）。请注意区分。

They"re not an itemany more.

他们分手了。

看到这个词组的第一反应是比伯的歌词“Are we an item?（我们在拍拖吧？）” 英文歌循环得多了，英语自然就好了。感谢比伯。

跟这个词组类似的表达还有“set somebody up” ，举个例子：

说到“求婚”，可能更为大家熟知的词是“propose to someone”，但是在口语中“pop the question”很常见哦，绝对是加分词汇～

还有一个表示“结婚”的词组是“tie the knot (with someone)”，举个例子：

She"s planning to tie the knot with her Chinese boyfriendnext month.

她计划下个月与她的中国男友结婚。

中文里形容两个人结婚时用“喜结连理”，英文中有“tie the knot”，看来不同语言与文化之间还是有共通之处嘛！
